Status Solutions today announced that its Situational Awareness and Response Assistant (SARA) has been deployed by West 57th Street by Hilton Club. The four-star, 28-floor hotel in midtown Manhattan is using the technology to enhance life safety, giving mobile duress pendants to lone workers so they can summon help quickly in the event of an emergency.
New York City hotel operators agreed to give hotel staff personal panic buttons as part of a long-term contract with the New York Hotel Trades Council A.F.L.-C.I.O. back in February 2012. The SARA deployment at West 57th Street by Hilton Club is one of the first implementations of such technology.
Three groups – engineering, housekeeping and security – comprised of 45 hotel staff members are equipped with mobile duress pendants at the start of their shifts. If a pendant is activated within the hotel or in the immediate outdoor vicinity, the SARA alerting engine automatically will send alerts to the security team on duty as well as the director of engineering via two-way radio. Alerts include the pendant ID and location data made possible by SARA’s Positioning System (SPS), a built-in vector mapping capability that helps responders more quickly find the source of an alarm. If required, alerts are escalated via phone calls and emails, including to the general manager.
“We’re equally concerned and responsible for our members and employees, so we’re very serious when it comes to their life safety,” explains Laurie Del Sole, General Manager for West 57th Street by Hilton Club. “As a unique and modern property, we want to take the lead in implementing technology that not only strengthens our services and guest satisfaction but also safety and security. I was able to see SARA in action at a senior living community here in the city and was very impressed. That live demonstration and subsequent conversations with some of their other customers convinced me to work with Status Solutions.”
Status Solutions has been providing mobile duress to senior living and education facilities in the United States and Canada since it was founded in 2001. “Situational awareness has broad applications, with mobile duress being key to life safety in many high-risk environments such as schools and senior living communities,” explains Mike MacLeod, president and founder, Status Solutions. “We’re now seeing hotels and resorts, as well as manufacturing plants, recognize SARA’s abilities to protect people and property. Laurie and her team at West 57th have been very proactive in implementing situational awareness to strengthen their overall safety and security program.”
From mobile duress to other life safety, security and environmental monitoring applications, SARA unifies disparate alarm and communication systems to speed alerting/mass notification by initiating the appropriate response plans, all preprogrammed according to an organization’s desired “modes and actions.” SARA includes a wireless sensor network, integration tools for existing alarm and communication systems so there’s no need to “rip out and replace” current technology infrastructure, and mass notification capabilities on one powerful platform.
