The residents at First Community Village in Columbus, OH, have something similar - but a bit more practical and versatile.
The Situational Awareness and Response Assistant (SARA for short) is an automated alert system. It can be used for just about anything, from alerting staff in the event of a fall to letting residents know about upcoming activities.
SARA employs a multi-platform system that includes telephone, email and pager alerts for all staff members, as well as resident communications.
Its range of applications is the best part of the SARA System, says FCV Facilities Director Beth Anne Carmen.
"The activities people love the automated resident calling feature; the nursing staff love the resident alert pendants," she says.
The mult-use SARA system can broadcast alerts to residents and staff, announce activities or emergencies, locate wandering patients or monitor delayed egress doors in a dementia unit.
