One of the things that will never cease to amaze me about our customers is their desire to find all the beneficial ways they can utilize SARA in their overall situational awareness strategy.  Whether it’s life safety, environmental monitoring, security or just notification, our customers come up with some of the most practical and impactful applications.  Allowing them to prevent loss while increasing the ROI they receive from this powerful platform.

This particular application comes from a customer from whom I’ve had the opportunity to learn about a lot of applications.  He contacted me recently asking if we had a way to monitor whether or not power was present in a standard wall outlet.  I immediately inquired as to why he would want to know that after informing him that SARA has the ability to monitor whether or not the power is on or off.  He explained that they were told that they needed a way to monitor their emergency power source or they could face a potential fine.  This customer was very quick to determine that there is a simple yet useful solution he could implement with SARA.  Half the battle is knowing when the power from the power company is off…the other half is knowing that the generators successfully start once power is lost from their provider.  He simply used two universal transmitters and two power on/off monitors.  He’s programmed his cell phone to be alerted anytime the power from the utility is lost.  He’s also programmed his cell phone to be alerted once the generator successfully engages.  This prevents him from having to travel into work late nights or during weekends to verify emergency power is running.

I thought to myself…what a simple way to avoid a fine and prevent the loss of convenience.  Oh, and yet another way the universal transmitter can be used with SARA!
