Located in Lyndhurst, Ohio, a few miles from Cleveland, The Greens Adult Living Communities consists of a nurse care center and two separate assisted living apartment facilities. The community's security system had previously been outsourced to an off-site organization. The Greens was ready to take full control of the safety and security of its staff and residents. When David Heller, Executive Director for The Greens Retirement Communities, was planning improvements for his community, he wanted to enhance his nurse call system by improving the accountability of resident care and the scheduling of staff.Solution
To meet his objectives, David Heller partnered with Status Solutions to implement the Situational Awareness and Response Assistant (SARA) system. Through the installation of SARA, The Greens' management can better serve its residents and monitor staffing issues on a real-time basis. By adding wireless pagers for staff and wireless pendants and pull cords for residents, the quality of incident management has been expanded greatly. SARA integrates all of the safety and security devices for The Greens into one simple and easy system and also integrates with the existing nurse call system which prevents a costly and complete replacement.
SARA provides alerting, monitoring, integration, and reporting capabilities. Alerts are reported immediately to the staff via pager so that resident emergency calls can be answered without delay. SARA's reporting capability captures all alerts and caregiver responses so that accountability, timing of assistance and resident monitoring are improved. By monitoring resident alerts, as to frequency and time of day, staffing issues become more manageable. "We were in need of a good tracking mechanism that would help improve our overall quality assurance. We found technology we can rely on in the SARA system," comments David Heller.
Prompt resident care and an enhanced monitoring capability serve as a marketing tool for The Greens as well. A higher degree of awareness and quality resident care speak volumes to families and loved ones.

The Greens' management now has a comprehensive system in place that can be used to plan staffing strategy, to monitor resident needs and care, to communicate with a mobile approach, and to historically retain alert records for quality assurance preparation.
